Tom Cox
Coach
Active Competitor: 100+ matches, international experience
Education:First-Class Honours (Business and HR), Keele University graduate
Working Background: Special Educational Needs (SEN) school
Teaches kids classes and adults mixed levels classes
Tom brings his competitive insights to the mats while using his background in SEN education to deliver a student-first coaching style. Also enthusiastic about modern sports coaching techniques, he uses the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) to teach through dynamic, game-based problem solving - challenging every practitioner from beginner to advanced to reach their full potential.

Dave’s ancient wisdom is a blessing to the club. Even at 94 years old, with a full time job and child to look after, he still teaches classes multiple times per week. He is dedicated to supporting the members of Stoke BJJ and will always hold you accountable for your training.

Not at all. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the best ways to get in shape. Our instructors will pace your initial training to match your current fitness level, and your endurance will build naturally over time.

Just bring standard athletic sports clothing—a T-shirt and shorts (no zips, pockets or buttons) work perfectly!

Gi: Training in the traditional heavy cotton kimono (Gi). You use grips on the jacket and pants to execute throws, sweeps, and submissions.
No-Gi: Training in rashguards (or t-shirt) and shorts.

Clean gear: Always train in freshly washed gear.
Footwear rule: Always wear footwear off the mat and remove it before stepping on the mats.
Personal hygiene: Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed short. Cover any minor cuts or scrapes with tape.

2-3 sessions per week is plenty to maintain and build new skills whilst improving your fitness!
